History of Freedom Defenders’ Day
On January 13, 1991, unarmed Lithuanian civilians gathered to protect key institutions in Vilnius, including the TV Tower and the Parliament, from Soviet military aggression. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of 14 civilians and injuries to nearly a thousand others.
