History of the Marine Corps Birthday
On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress resolved to raise two battalions of Marines, marking the establishment of the original Continental Marines. After the Revolutionary War the force was disbanded, and later re-established officially on July 11, 1798.
In 1921, the Marine Corps formalised November 10 as its annual birthday celebration via Marine Corps Order No. 47, issued by Commandant John A. Lejeune, stating that “it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our Corps.”
