The history National Ice Cream Sandwich Day

In the early 1900s, ice cream vendors began selling these cold sweet sandwiches on the streets of New York City. These sandwiches were made with a variety of ice cream flavors and often had nuts or fruit added to them. They became so popular that they were soon being sold in stores and ice cream parlors across the country.

In 1945, a businessman Jerry Newberg started selling these sweets at baseball games in Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field. The sandwiches consisted of vanilla ice cream between two chocolate cookies.
