History of World Environment Day
World Environment Day was established in 1972 during the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, Sweden—considered one of the first major international meetings focused on environmental issues. The first official observance took place on June 5, 1974, with the theme “Only One Earth.” 1
World Nature Conservation Day
Since then, the day has grown into a global platform for public outreach, celebrated in more than 150 countries.
