History of Marine Mammal Rescue Day

Established in 2017 by California State Senator Toni Atkins, Marine Mammal Rescue Day was created to recognize the vital work of marine mammal rescue organizations and to highlight the importance of ocean conservation.

One of the pioneering institutions in this field is The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California, founded in 1975. Since its inception, the center has rescued and rehabilitated over 26,000 marine mammals, including seals, sea lions, whales, and dolphins.
