History of World Parkinson’s Day
In 1817, Dr. James Parkinson, an English physician, published “An Essay on the Shaking Palsy,” providing the first detailed description of the condition that would later bear his name. To commemorate his contributions, the European Parkinson’s Disease Association, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, established World Parkinson’s Day on April 11th, Dr. Parkinson’s birthday, with the inaugural observance in 1997.
The red tulip became the official symbol of Parkinson’s disease in 2005, representing solidarity and hope within the global Parkinson’s community.
